Carolina Beach
is located at the end of Pleasure Island a narrow slip of land between
the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic Ocean, and has about 5,600
current residents. Separated from the mainland by the Intracoastal
Waterway Carolina Beach is 30 minutes from downtown Wilmington by
car.
Miniature golf, batting cages, go carts, waterslides, bumper cars
and an arcade; plus boat, kayak, surfboard and bicycle rentals are
right here in the town center. There’s music at the town Gazebo
every weekend. And unlike some of the beaches Carolina Beach has
a boardwalk and modernized 1950’s era motels are still around
to take you back to a era gone by. When I was a kid during the late
'50s and 60's my parents vacationed here. This is the way I remember
the beach.
Carolina Beach underwent a transformation during the 1990s while
I was living at Holden Beach. It has evolved into a heavily residential
community with a wholesome family environment. Those years seen
the cultivation of improved services, pleasant landscaping, attention
to zoning and citizen action to make Carolina Beach an attractive
visitor destination. One of my favorites.
Carolina Beach State Park has nature trails and covers approximately
700 acres. The State Park has with a visitor center, fishing pier,
picnic and camping areas, marina, and water activities. For a modest
fee, you can camp and enjoy the wonders of coastal nature.
