Nags Head North Carolina first became a tourist retreat around 1830. You will get a feel for vacationing in Nags Head as it was in the 19th century. Seven of the original 13 cottages still stand and are some of the earliest examples of Nags Head architecture. You will see the style carried on in the accompanying structures that have been built beside them. Approximately 40 oceanfront cottages make up Cottage Row.

Nags Head is home to the tallest natural sand dune on the East Coast, the Jockey’s Ridge State Park. Consisting of five dunes that are continually changing in shape and height. The highest hill varies from 90 to 110 feet tall. Included in the 426-acre park are several trails, picnic areas, a visitor center and a museum and gift shop. You will find within the park, bird species, foxes, squirrels, occasional deer and wild rabbits.
