Pine Knoll Shores is located
on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina's southern outer banks in
Carteret County. A planned residential community of over 1500, originally
developed by the Roosevelt family. The General Assembly ratified
the Town Charter on April 25, 1973. Pine Knoll Shores then officially
became "The Town of Pine Knoll Shores". Pine Knoll Shores covers
nearly two square miles. This barrier island is surrounded by Atlantic
Beach, Indian Beach, the Bogue Sound and the Atlantic Ocean.
Five
miles west of Atlantic Beach is the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium.
Established in 1976 to promote an awareness, understanding, appreciation,
and conservation of the diverse natural and cultural resources associated
with North Carolina’s ocean, estuaries, rivers, streams, and
other aquatic environments. With over one million animals in the
building, a touch tank, auditorium two nature trails and gift shop
you can spend an entire day here learning the wonders of the NC
Atlantic Coast.
