Waves is a community located in a section
of the North Carolina Outer Banks known as the Cape Hatteras National
Shore in Dare County, on Hatteras Island. Originally Waves, Rodanthe
and Salvo were part of the settlement of Chicamacomico, Waves was
known as South Rodanthe until 1939.
Mirlo Beach, incorporates Waves, Roadanthe, and Salvo. The Northern
border of Waves is generally considered to be a ditch that runs
just South of Resort Rodanthe Drive. The Southern border between
Waves and Salvo is not as clearly defined and long time residents
will point to different locatrions as the official line between
Waves and Salvo.
The Waves area is dominated by large and small campgrounds as well
as numerous rental houses. |
